Baseball Game Preview: Grafton Bearcats vs. Doddridge County Bulldogs

Grafton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Doddridge County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Bearcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Grafton needed a bit of extra time to put away Lewis County. They won by a run and slipped past the Minutemen 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bearcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Cam Gray was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last six contests. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Greyson Ramezan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mason Sheme, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Doddridge County waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Knights. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 21, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Grafton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Doddridge County, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Grafton was able to grind out a solid win over Doddridge County in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 9-4. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
