Football Recap: Paoli Skates Past Eastern Greene with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Paoli). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-20 win over the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

A big part of Paoli's win came down to the chemistry between Justin Thornton and his top target Dane Padgett. Thornton rushed for 143 yards and three TDs on only five carries while Padgett gained 146 total yards and five touchdowns. Those 143 rushing yards gave Thornton a new career-high. Trey Robbins got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Paoli was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 354 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Paoli didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tyler Hannon, Kade Walls, and Robbins picked up one apiece. Robbins got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Eastern Greene lost, don't look at Bryson Jones. Despite the final result, he picked up 95 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one score on the ground. Jones' longest reception was for an incredible 75 yards.

Paoli's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Eastern Greene, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Paoli will face off against Crawford County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will be up against the Wolfpack's rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Eastern Greene, they will challenge North Decatur at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' defense has only allowed 9.4 points per game this season, so the Thunderbirds' offense will have their work cut out for them.
