Basketball Game Preview: Martinsville Bulldogs vs. Halifax County Comets

Martinsville and Halifax County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Martinsville Bulldogs will welcome the Halifax County Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Martinsville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Last Friday, Martinsville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 68-64 to Bassett. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly four points.

Meanwhile, Halifax County won against George Washington on Friday with 58 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. Halifax County came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty, sneaking past 58-55. Given the Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Minutemen are ranked 326th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Martinsville has also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Halifax County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
