Football Recap: Gainesville Comes Up Short

Gainesville extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They had to suffer through an 82-7 loss at the hands of the Ponder Lions. The Leopards lost against the Lions in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 35-25 score last time.

As for Ponder, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 79.5 points this season.

Tyson Price was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 185 yards and four TDs on only nine carries, and also threw for 81 yards and three touchdowns. His longest rush was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Gage Ersch was in the mix too, providing Ponder with two scores.

Coming up, Gainesville will take on Henderson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ponder, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bonham at 7:00 p.m.
