Softball Recap: Manchester Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Manchester had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Augusta on Wednesday. The Greyhounds blew past the Panthers 16-3. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won five matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Rylie Young and Jadelyn Conley were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Young struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Conley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Young scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Conley scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bristynn McClanahan was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Abby Neria also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Manchester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Manchester's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Augusta, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Manchester will welcome Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Greyhounds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Augusta, they will take on Fleming County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
