The Manchester Greyhounds are taking a road trip to take on the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Manchester barely beat North Adams the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Green Devils last Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Greyhounds considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Thomas Barnhart was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Luke Applegate was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Clayton Colvin was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Manchester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Lynchburg-Clay and Eastern have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Mustangs never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Cole Wells's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 16 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Quin Wells was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tanner Roberts, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Manchester has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manchester has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lynchburg-Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manchester suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Lynchburg-Clay in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Greyhounds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
