Baseball Recap: Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Has No Trouble Against Lake Station Edison

After only two runs in their last match, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lake Station Edison on Thursday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Fighting Eagles. The Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Fighting Eagles, too.

Austin McKimmy and Boudi Sullivan made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, McKimmy tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Meanwhile, Sullivan pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, McKimmy got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, while Sullivan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Michniewicz, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Anthony Concepcion was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Station Edison only posted an OBP of .217.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Lake Station Edison, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will host Hammond Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Lake Station Edison, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Illiana Christian at 5:00 p.m.
