Basketball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Centauri Falcons
Even though the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers have not done well against the Centauri Falcons recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Montezuma-Cortez secured a 48-44 W over the Falcons. The win made it back-to-back wins for Montezuma-Cortez.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montezuma-Cortez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Milah Begay, who scored nine points along with three steals. Begay is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Kalea Ogo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Centauri still got an impressive performance from Hannah Curtis, who scored 26 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Curtis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rylie McCarroll, who scored four points along with four steals.
Montezuma-Cortez now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Centauri, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.
Montezuma-Cortez will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mean Moose at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Morgan Ortega and Savannah Haselroth. As for Centauri, they will head out on the road to take on the Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bayfield is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
