Basketball Recap: Southern Valley Eagles vs. Loomis Wolves
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Southern Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They snuck past the Loomis Wolves with a 72-66 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Schukar, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Schukar a new career-high. Tyson Essex was another key player, putting up 15 points along with six assists and six boards.
Southern Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Loomis, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Southern Valley will be taking part in a tournament against Blue Hill at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Loomis and North Central will round out the year against one another at at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Loomis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully North Central likes a good challenge.
