Basketball Recap: Crystal City Extends Winning Streak to Four

Crystal City had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They strolled past the Hondo Owls with points to spare, taking the game 56-37. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 52-48 back in January.

Crystal City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyson Mata out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Riyannah Mena was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Crystal City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 21 consecutive games.

Crystal City is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Hondo, they moved to 24-6 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Crystal City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-33 victory against Cotulla on the 4th. Hondo has also already played their next game, a 56-46 defeat against Natalia on the 4th.
