Softball Recap: Illiana Christian Gets the Win

Illiana Christian posted their closest win since May 17, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Griffith Panthers 4-2. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Cayden Petersen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lydia VanderWoude, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Mya VanderWoude also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Illiana Christian now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Griffith, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

Illiana Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
