Basketball Game Preview: Charleston Bluejays vs. Sikeston Bulldogs

The Charleston Bluejays will take on the Sikeston Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Charleston's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matches.

Charleston fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Jackson on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 75-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fighting Indians. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Bluejays still had to take the loss.

Despite their loss, Charleston saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Deshaun Henderson, who posted 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Henderson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Treshaun Schandon, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Sikeston over Poplar Bluff in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Sikeston blew Poplar Bluff out of the water with an 88-52 final score. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 21 points or more this season.

Sikeston is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.5 points. As for Charleston, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-9.

Charleston was taken down by Sikeston 89-43 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Charleston was down 50-24.
