Basketball Recap: Bryan County Takes Down Mt. Zion in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Bryan County walked away with it. They escaped with a win on Saturday against the Mt. Zion Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 58-57. The win was nothing new for the Redskins as they're now sitting on four straight.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Zion lost, don't look at Xavier Buckner. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-15 to rack up 23 points. Buckner's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Austin Waters, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Bryan County pushed their record up to 22-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Mt. Zion, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-9.

Bryan County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-49 loss against Greene County on the 26th. Mt. Zion does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
