Softball Recap: Taft Has No Trouble Against Aransas Pass

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Goliad, Taft was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Aransas Pass Panthers with a sharp 12-2 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Greyhounds' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Josette Aparicio made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Taft let Daviana Mendez and Jewelysa Garcia run wild. Mendez went 1-for-2 with four RBI and one run, while Garcia scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Quintero, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Taft always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

With the win, Taft broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-7. As for Aransas Pass, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taft will welcome George West at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aransas Pass, they will face off against Odem at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Odem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
