Baseball Recap: Ravenscroft Triumphs

Ravenscroft got themselves on the board against Cary Academy on Thursday, but Cary Academy never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Chargers. The Ravens haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Will Eichler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ravenscroft is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise. Eichler was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matthew Madewell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Ravenscroft is undefeated when Madewell posts three or more hits, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Matt Ulicny, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Ravenscroft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got Ravenscroft back to even at 7-7. As for Cary Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7.

Ravenscroft will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Durham Academy at 5:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Cary Academy, they will welcome Wake Christian Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
