Two dominant guards in Teagan Baer and Aubrey Stoll are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northfield Norsemen will welcome the Maconaquah Braves at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Northfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
Northfield easily dispatched Eastbrook last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Norsemen fell just short of Peru by a score of 59-57 last Friday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emma Wilson, who posted eight points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Krom, who had nine points and eight boards.
Meanwhile, Maconaquah beat North Miami 41-29 on Wednesday. The 41-point effort marked the Braves' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Maconaquah's win came from a few key players Northfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ireland Kile, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 15 points. Kile is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Delaney Betzner, who scored seven points and five steals.
Maconaquah was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Miami only racked up six.
Northfield's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Maconaquah, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northfield has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maconaquah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Northfield came up short against Maconaquah in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 40-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stoll, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 steals. Now that the Norsemen know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
