Recap: Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans vs. Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes
The Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans lost against the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Morristown-Hamblen West lost to Morristown-Hamblen East at home by a decisive 54-37 margin. While losing is never fun, Morristown-Hamblen West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Morristown-Hamblen East is ranked 28th).
Leading Morristown-Hamblen East to victory were Cory Carpenter and Kyle Cloninger. Carpenter scored 16 points, while Cloninger scored 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Cloninger has scored at least 25% of Morristown-Hamblen East's points. Another player making a difference was Keegan Mink, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Morristown-Hamblen West's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-7. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morristown-Hamblen West will take on Dobyns-Bennett at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Hardin Valley Academy.
