Basketball Recap: Edgewood Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Edgewood took on Harrison on Saturday. The Edgewood Cougars were dealt a 60-29 defeat at the hands of the Harrison Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 649th, while the Wildcats are ranked 99th).

Kamdyn Buck was Edgewood's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Layla Marconi held things down on the boards with five rebounds. Rylee Manning took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Harrison was led to victory by Alli Robertson and Abby Smith. Robertson posted 26 points, while Smith put up 16 points. Robertson's afternoon made it 32 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Edgewood's loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 5.14 assists in those games compared to only 5.14 in the others. As for Harrison, the win keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Edgewood will host Monroe at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood is facing Monroe at the right time seeing as Monroe is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Harrison, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 44-20 victory against Talawanda on the 29th.
