Football Game Preview: Tupelo Golden Wave vs. Horn Lake Eagles

Two dominant backs in Kylan Bobo and Floyd Sinegal are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Tupelo Golden Wave will be playing at home against the Horn Lake Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Horn Lake will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Tupelo extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Golden Wave took down Hernando 35-17. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Golden Wave's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Tigers are ranked 51st).

Braylen Williams was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 117 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. Jaeden Hill was another key player, rushing for 96 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 255 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Horn Lake didn't have too much trouble with DeSoto Central on Friday as they won 35-20.

Horn Lake's receiving core played a big role in the win, headlined by Jason Edwards Jr and Braylon King. Edwards Jr threw for 168 yards on 11 of 20 attempts while King picked up 105 receiving yards. That's the most receiving yards King has posted since back in October of 2024.

Horn Lake's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Tupelo, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Tupelo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 292.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Horn Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 191.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Tupelo took their win against Horn Lake in their previous matchup back in October of 2020 by a conclusive 34-13 score. In that game, the Golden Wave amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
