Baseball Recap: Clovis West Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Clovis West can now relate to. They fell just short of the Stockdale Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Golden Eagles haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Nolin Santillan was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Clovis West is 6-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-11 otherwise. Santillan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Santillan wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julian Manos, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Clovis West's loss dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Stockdale, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.

Clovis West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stockdale, they will take on Clovis North at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
