Baseball Game Preview: Half Moon Bay Cougars vs. El Camino Colts

The Half Moon Bay Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the El Camino Colts at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Half Moon Bay will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Half Moon Bay took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Aragon, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since April 12th.

Half Moon Bay got a great performance from Andreas Hipkins as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Hipkins has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-15 otherwise.

At the plate, Clark Colucci was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Half Moon Bay is 2-1 when Colucci posts two or more runs, but 8-14 otherwise.

Meanwhile, El Camino didn't have quite enough to beat Mills on Thursday and fell 15-14. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Carlos Alcala stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Michael McCauley, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Half Moon Bay's record is now 10-15. As for El Camino, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-17.

Half Moon Bay couldn't quite get it done against El Camino in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
