Soccer Recap: Orono Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Orono and Maine Central Institute pushed the score to 7-1 the last time they played Maine Central Institute, but on Thursday defenses reigned supreme. The Riots' defense stepped up to hand the Huskies a 1-0 shutout. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Orono's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Maine soccer rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Maine Central Institute are ranked 103rd).

Orono's one-goal win came courtesy of Ty Tweedie, who's now up to five this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Orono and bumps their season record up to 8-0-1. As for Maine Central Institute, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Coming up, Orono is taking a road trip to square off against Fort Kent at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Maine Central Institute, they will look to defend their home pitch on Saturday against Maranacook at 12:00 p.m.
