Basketball Recap: Memorial Day Comes Up Short

After flying high against Veritas Academy back in November, Memorial Day came back down to earth. The Memorial Day Matadors lost to the Coastal HomeSchool Hurricanes on the road by a 68-52 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 181st).

Alijah McField continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Coastal HomeSchool, going 9 for 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. McField has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Jenkins, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 14 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Memorial Day fell to 2-1. As for Coastal HomeSchool, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Memorial Day wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-38 loss against Islands on the 7th. As for Coastal HomeSchool, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-27 defeat against Frederica Academy on the 6th.
