Recap: Newport Buffaloes vs. Halifax Wildcats
The Newport Buffaloes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. Their rough 64-43 defeat to Halifax might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Newport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 728th, while Halifax is ranked 312th).
Despite the defeat, Newport saw an underclassman step up: Landon Zaring scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Zaring hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruben Moreno, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Newport has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Halifax, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Newport will head out on the road to take on Juniata at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Halifax, they will be playing at home against Susquenita at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
