Mt. Zion is 8-2 against Mattoon since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Braves will host the Greenwave at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Zion has four straight victories, Mattoon has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Mt. Zion was able to grind out a solid win over Olympia, taking the game 6-3.

Ella Fink made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Savannah Beiler was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Rachel Besser, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mattoon came up short against Marshall on Wednesday and fell 12-7.
Mattoon also got a good showing from Hanna Griffin, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, Alana Perez and Aylexis Otto stepped up to the plate in a big way. Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Otto went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kenna Karnes was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Mattoon's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Mt. Zion, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Everything went Mt. Zion's way against Mattoon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Mt. Zion made off with a 9-3 win. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Greenwave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
