Softball Recap: West Union Comes Up Short

West Union extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dragons of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Olivia Lewis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. MacKenzie Stout was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Lynchburg-Clay, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On Lynchburg-Clay's side, Aubrey Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. Roberts has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia. Michael, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Ruble, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

West Union wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 12-0 loss against Clay on the 19th. As for Lynchburg-Clay, they have also already played their next game, a 7-1 victory against Zane Trace on the 19th.
