Basketball Game Preview: Clint Lions vs. Ysleta Indians

Clint hasn't had much luck against Ysleta recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Clint Lions will be playing at home against the Ysleta Indians at 6:00 p.m.

Clint is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Tuesday. They fell 58-49 to Mountain View.

Meanwhile, Ysleta had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They snuck past the Eagles with a 50-44 victory. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 473rd, while the Eagles are ranked 963rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Clint better keep an eye on Azaiah Thompson. He was instrumental in Ysleta's win, going 9 of 16 on his way to 24 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Thompson has scored at least a third of Ysleta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Martin Soria, who posted eight points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Ysleta's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Clint, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

Clint might still be hurting after the 50-28 defeat they got from Ysleta when the teams last played back in November of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Now that Clint knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
