League recap: Richlands rises, Tazewell falls in league standings

AA Southwest league recap: 5/7/12

Richlands made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fourth to second place in the league thanks to a 2-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Tazewell fell hardest in the standings, dropping from second all the way to fourth place after going 3-4 in the past week. Abingdon (11-3, 6-1) is the No. 1 team in the league.

The Falcons (11-3, 6-1) are riding a league-best 5-game winning streak. In the past week, Abingdon won another game, includinga 2-1 victory over Tazewell and a 7-5 win over Carroll County.

Marion's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 21 hits and seven walks to lead the league in both categories. On the season, the Hurricanes have allowed just 96 hits, while striking out 97 batters. Matthew Rosenbaum leads the Hurricanes with 31 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Rosenbaum led the league with six hits this week for Marion. His 25 hits for the year are first in the league, and he boasts a .568 batting average.
