Basketball Recap: Frontier Academy Wolverines vs. Monte Vista Pirates
Frontier Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 66-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monte Vista Pirates. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2017.
Despite the loss, Frontier Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Owen Steward went 7 for 8 on his way to 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Steward has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hurley Flores, who posted five points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Frontier Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Azariah Hurtado continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Monte Vista, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Those 22 points gave Hurtado a new career-high. Alex Marquez was another key player, putting up 16 points.
Frontier Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Monte Vista, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Frontier Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-52 win against Alamosa on the 14th. As for Monte Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-46 victory against Elizabeth on the 14th.
