Volleyball Recap: Birkli Martin and Sophie Hesse Secure Win for Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart posted their closest win since October 12, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Northwest Mustangs, sneaking past 3-2. This was payback for the Gremlins, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sacred Heart was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (97-94), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-16, 10-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Sacred Heart was led to victory by Sophie Hesse and Birkli Martin. Hesse had 23 digs and two aces, while Martin had ten digs and one assist. Hesse is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 22 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Sacred Heart was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They are 6-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

Sacred Heart now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Northwest, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4-1.

Sacred Heart didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Osceola on the 6th. Northwest has also already played their next contest (against Otterville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
