Soccer Game Preview: Meridian vs. Manassas Park

The Meridian Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Manassas Park Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meridian will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Meridian had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the eight-goal drubbing they dealt Kettle Run on Friday. The Mustangs' defense stepped up to hand the Cougars an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Meridian, who have now won five matchups by six goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Kettle Run from everywhere, as eight different players booted in a goal.

Meanwhile, after soaring to four goals the game before, Manassas Park was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Handley. While losing is never fun, Manassas Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Handley are ranked 22nd).

Meridian pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 45 goals over those five games. As for Manassas Park, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5-1.
