The Liberty Ranch Hawks will face off against the Sutter Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Liberty Ranch comes in on 12 and Sutter on three.
Liberty Ranch is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand West Campus a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Hawks have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Liberty Ranch got a great performance from Laura Quinn as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Quinn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gracyn Graviette was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariella Granata, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Liberty Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Campus only posted an OBP of .176.
Wheatland typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Sutter proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 9-6.
Izabella Pacheco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paytyn Schamanski, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 4-for-4.
Liberty Ranch pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sutter, their victory bumped their record up to 12-15.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Liberty Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Sutter struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
