Basketball Recap: Alexandra Dobbs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Greencastle over Southmont

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Greencastle can now relate to. They came up short against the Southmont Mounties on Friday, falling 66-44. The Tiger Cubs have struggled against the Mounties recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Greencastle's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexandra Dobbs, who posted 18 points and three steals. Bailey Brown was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Greencastle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Southmont found their leader in sophomore Layla Gomez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Gomez has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Molly Williams, who went 5 for 10 to rack up 10 points and four steals.

Greencastle's record now sits at 7-17. As for Southmont, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-11.

Greencastle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southmont, they have already played their next game, a 60-44 loss against Parke Heritage on the 8th.
