Softball Game Preview: Somonauk Bobcats vs. Mendota Trojans

The Somonauk Bobcats will face off against the Mendota Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Somonauk will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Somonauk hadn't beaten Newman Central Catholic on the road since April 21, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Bobcats walked away with a 16-11 win over the Comets.

The team relied heavily on Kennedy Barshinger, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kaydence Eade was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Somonauk kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Mendota was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Sherrard. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly ten runs.

Mendota's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Somonauk, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-13.

Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Somonauk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Mendota struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Somonauk skirted past Mendota 30-29 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
