Baseball Game Preview: Homer Trojans vs. Vandercook Lake Jayhawks

The Homer Trojans will face off against the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Homer will be strutting in after a victory while Vandercook Lake will be coming in after a defeat.

On Monday, Homer got the win against East Jackson by a conclusive 14-2.

Zak Smith and Isaiah Sullivan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Smith pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Sullivan didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. At bat, Smith scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances, while Sullivan scored a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Homer got a massive performance out of Xander Dubois, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brock Butler, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Homer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Jackson only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Vandercook Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Manchester, falling 16-5. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Jayhawks' highest-scoring match to date.

Hunter Kurzynowski made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

The win got Homer back to even at 1-1. As for Vandercook Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Homer took their victory against Vandercook Lake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Jayhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
