Softball Recap: Trenton Tigers vs. Branford Buccaneers
With a playoff game on the line, Trenton rose to the challenge on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Branford Buccaneers. The victory was familiar territory for Trenton who now have eight in a row.
EmmaLee Brideson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Brideson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Brideson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
In other batting news, Olivia Weaver was excellent, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run. Another player making a difference was Presley Akins, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
On Branford's side, Jesse Frierson and Cloey Criggall did some serious damage despite the final result: Frierson scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Criggall scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Trenton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. As for Branford, their loss dropped their record down to 24-7.
