The Packinghouse Christian Academy Bears are taking a road trip to square off against the Calvary Baptist Cougars at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Baptist took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Packinghouse Christian Academy, who comes in off a win.
Packinghouse Christian Academy took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Cornerstone Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Packinghouse Christian Academy won by a run and slipped past Cornerstone Christian 11-10.
Emily Toma was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Toma was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Madison Hopkins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Brooke Kellar was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Packinghouse Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornerstone Christian only posted an OBP of .389.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist fell victim to Southlands Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Eagles. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Calvary Baptist saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bri Rosales, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Calvary Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Packinghouse Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Packinghouse Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 14 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Calvary Baptist struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Packinghouse Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 29-17 defeat they got from Calvary Baptist in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Packinghouse Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
