St. John and Cardinal are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Heralds will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Huskies at 5:00 p.m. St. John is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
St. John will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Conneaut, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Heralds narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Heralds.
Isabelle Holler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Holler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Holler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
St. John hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cardinal came up short against Kenston on Thursday, falling 14-7. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Adelyn Grant was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Grant, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Cardinal's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for St. John, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
