Brenton Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.
In other batting news, Jeffery Cochran was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Round Valley is undefeated when Cochran posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Eli Pena, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Holbrook came up short against Mogollon on Saturday, falling 17-6.
Matthias Montijo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Ben Eisele was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Even though they lost, Holbrook hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive games.
Round Valley's record now sits at 4-2. As for Holbrook, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Holbrook's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Round Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Holbrook, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Round Valley keep running through batters, or will Holbrook buck the trend?
Everything went Round Valley's way against Holbrook in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Round Valley made off with a 26-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Round Valley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
