A feisty cat fight will be fought as LBJ Austin Jaguars duke it out with Eastside Early College Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
LBJ Austin made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Northeast Early College, but they still couldn't quite topple them. LBJ Austin put the hurt on Northeast Early College with a sharp 32-5 victory on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eastside Early College). They never let Austin Achieve get on the board and left with a 25-0 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Mikaela Montoya and Izzy Perez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Montoya struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Perez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Montoya went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Perez went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was Perez's first of the season.
In other batting news, Evy Leon and Brianna Fisher did most of the damage at the plate: Leon scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Fisher went 1-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Leon also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Hannalicia Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Eastside Early College kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
LBJ Austin's record now sits at 2-3. As for Eastside Early College, their record now sits at 3-4.
LBJ Austin might still be hurting after the 34-17 loss they got from Eastside Early College in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can LBJ Austin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
