Preview: Mansfield Summit Jaguars vs. Ennis Lions
The Mansfield Summit Jaguars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Ennis Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mansfield Summit had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They breezed by Joshua on the road to the tune of 35-0. Given Mansfield Summit's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Joshua is ranked 790th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amare Burgess continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Burgess hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Meanwhile, Ennis never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Burleson 38-0 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Ennis just coasted through the last quarter.
Ennis' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jeremy Brown , who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and Gracen Harris, who rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of WONDAME DAVIS, who rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Mansfield Summit is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Ennis, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Mansfield Summit has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 185.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ennis struggles in that department as they've been even better at 235.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Mansfield Summit couldn't quite finish off Ennis when the teams last played back in November of 2022 and fell 30-27. Thankfully for Mansfield Summit, Jackson Gilkey (who rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 197 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.3% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
