Baseball Recap: Lapoynor Wins Going Away Against Cumberland Academy

LaPoynor's tournament run continued when they took on Cumberland Academy on Saturday. The LaPoynor Flyers were the clear victor by an 11-2 margin over the Cumberland Academy Knights. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flyers.

Colt Rogers made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rogers was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now stolen two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Kaden McKinley and Tripp Moeller did most of the damage at the plate: McKinley scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Moeller scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs McKinley has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowdy Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

LaPoynor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory got LaPoynor back to even at 2-2. As for Cumberland Academy, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, LaPoynor will face off against Bishop Gorman at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. LaPoynor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Cumberland Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Palestine at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
