Football Recap: Brentwood Piles Up the Points Against Briarwood Academy

The matchup between Brentwood and Briarwood Academy on Friday hardly resembled the 21-6 effort from their previous meeting. The War Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Buccaneers 49-20. The result was nothing new for the War Eagles, who have now won six matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Brentwood was led to victory by Baylor Cobb and Tristan Robinson. Cobb rushed for 37 yards and one touchdown, while Robinson rushed for 56 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries. What's more, Cobb racked up 145 passing yards, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Quez Collins, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Brentwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 164 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Brentwood, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Collins, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why Briarwood Academy lost, don't look at Cutler Fleming. Despite the final result, he rushed for 143 yards while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Brentwood's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Briarwood Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Brentwood is set to take on their familiar foe Edmund Burke Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the War Eagles 12, the Spartans 4.7) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Briarwood Academy will challenge rival Augusta Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
