Basketball Recap: Golden Plains Comes Up Short

Golden Plains lost against Weskan two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Golden Plains Bulldogs were outmatched by the Weskan Coyotes and fell 65-38. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Coyotes are ranked 130th).

Despite the loss, Golden Plains had strong showings from Owen Patmon, who posted ten points and six assists, and Josh Rath, who had 11 points and three steals. Those six assists gave Patmon a new career-high.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weskan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trey Allen, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds. Allen has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 36 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dodger Allen, who earned 12 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Golden Plains' defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Weskan, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Golden Plains wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-32 loss against Wheatland-Grinnell on the 8th. As for Weskan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-47 defeat against Logan/Palco on the 8th.
