Softball Game Preview: Oxford Prep Griffins vs. Person Rockets

The Oxford Prep Griffins will square off against the Person Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Oxford Prep is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since May 10, 2024 on Friday. They lost 11-2 to Roxboro Community. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Griffins' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Marleigh Swanner and Hailey Crowder did some serious damage despite the final result: Swanner scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Crowder went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Person was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Roxboro Community, falling 21-8.

Person saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenzley Horne, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Person's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Oxford Prep, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.

Person's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oxford Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Person, though, as they've been averaging 9.7 hits. Given Oxford Prep's sizable advantage in that area, the Rockets will need to find a way to close that gap.

Oxford Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Person in their previous matchup back in March, winning 9-5. Do the Griffins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
