Baseball Recap: Jay County Wins Going Away Against New Castle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jay County had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the New Castle Trojans. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Kade Sommers looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Carter Fugiett was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Jay County is 5-1 when Fugiett posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Jetmore, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Jay County's win bumped their record up to 11-14. As for New Castle, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.

Jay County will take on Delta at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. New Castle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
