Basketball Recap: Cherryville Takes a Loss

Cherryville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They came up short against the Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons, falling 78-53. The Ironmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gryphons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Cherryville still got an impressive performance from Andron Patterson, who went 7 of 13 en route to 14 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Talon Dalton, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Cherryville was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Cherryville's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Cherryville will venture away from home to take on Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelby knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Cherryville likes a good challenge. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Bessemer City at 6:30 p.m. Bessemer City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71.6 points per game this season.
