Recap: Abilene Eagles vs. Monterey Plainsmen

If the Abilene Eagles were feeling good off their 79-46 takedown of the Cooper Cougars last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Abilene was outmatched by Monterey on the road and fell 81-30. Abilene has not had much luck with Monterey recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Aaliyah Chavez was her usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-10 from downtown and dropping a triple-double on 42 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 steals for Monterey. Chavez is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ambrosia Cole, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Abilene has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-13 record this season. As for Monterey, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 26-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Abilene will take on Lubbock at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monterey, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Wylie at 6:00 p.m. Wylie is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
