Football Game Preview: Lafayette Central Catholic Knights vs. Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles

The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Lafayette Central Catholic turned things around against Benton Central on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bison 69-8. Considering the Knights' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Lafayette Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wyatt Williams led the charge by picking up 98 receiving yards and two TDs. That's the most receiving touchdowns Williams has posted since back in August. Joey Metzger did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 57 receiving yards.

Lafayette Central Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ethan Miller and Liam Hensley. Lafayette Central Catholic received some extra help from Ethan Boutelle, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Guerin Catholic took on Culver Academies on Friday. The Golden Eagles strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 35-21. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Eagles are ranked 209th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win got Guerin Catholic back to even at 4-4. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-6.

Lafayette Central Catholic won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, slipping by Guerin Catholic 22-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Golden Eagles' Malcolm Houze, who rushed for 49 yards and one score, and also threw for 155 yards and one touchdown while completing 73.7% of his passes. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Knights to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
