Soccer Game Preview: Kearney vs. Lincoln Southwest

The Kearney Bearcats will take on the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kearney will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Kearney had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the three-goal drubbing they dealt Fremont on Monday. The Bearcats never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Kearney, who have now won five matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Southwest is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Johnston. The Silver Hawks fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 1-0.

Kearney's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three games. As for Lincoln Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Kearney couldn't quite get it done against Lincoln Southwest when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
